Well this is it folks we’ve come to the end of a very long and joyful ride and as we close the final chapter to a 15 year run we would like to take this time to reflect back and thank you for all the happy memories that you’ve given us through the years. November 22, 2008 will be our last live performance as the Greg Glick band. We have decided to call it quits. You may as ask us why would you do such a thing. I will try and put into words why the band has decided to fold.

Well the answer is never easy, as we grow we change and musicians are no exceptions to this. I’ve had the pleasure of knowing both Judd Short and Greg Deener long before they joined the band. As the story goes back in the day, I used to hunt Judd down and ask if he was interested in putting a band together. At that time he was already working in a group and would always give me the same reply. “Now Greg we’ve had this discussion before I’m already in a band, sorry but no”.

Years later as I developed my own thing he had told me how much he wanted to be a part of such a group. The feeling is mutual Judd. I’m truly honored to have had the opportunity to have worked with you Judd. We’ve often said to each other that were one in the same, much like twin brothers. Judd has devoted ten years to me and this band and that’s saying a lot right there. Especially these days when bars and club owners change hands as often as bands change members. Anyway forgive me for rambling. Now on to the reason why Judd is leaving.

Judd has been involved with a recording project for some years now and he and friend Joe White have composed enough original material for three full length cd’s, and he would like to devote as much time to completing this project as possible. With that said there are other possibilities for Judd that would arise as well from being a part of such a project and he would like to explore those avenues as well. I for one am very happy for him and wish my friend all the best in his musical pursuit, he deserves it. God bless you my friend.

Greg Deener and I go back many years I guess you could say he’s been a part of my early live performing band days. We were in one of the local area’s most successful classic rock bands Mischief that ran from 89 to 92.  Greg has also been like a brother to me. I’ve often said that Both Greg and Pattie are like my second family. I couldn’t tell you how many times I have came to them regarding personal problems.  Greg, Judd and Pattie have always been there for me during times of need, and I can’t say enough good things about them. Anyway Greg D has also expressed his pursuit to explore other musical avenues as well. Greg D and I have had numerous discussions about enlisting his wife Pattie as lead vocalist for a future project. Much to our excitement she has chosen to come out of retirement to do just that. In other words Greg & Pattie and their Son Joe Clough on drums and myself will be quite busy in the coming weeks as we put this group together. By the way the name of this band will be called "Dr. Hekyll & Mr. Jive" or  Hekyll & Jive for short. We’ll keep you posted with future developments. It will undoubtedly be Blues and R&B related so I should feel right at home.

I will miss the format that we’ve had and the musicians that have supported me and enabled me to become the kind of player I am today, for without them I could not have lasted this long nor would I have been able to give you my best.

It’s been a long, fun and unforgettable 15 years and I want to be able here to take you to where it all began.

Sure the bio explains it all but I want to give you a chronological line up of how the Greg Glick Band got started. So here goes.

Throughout the mid eighties I preformed both as a soloist and a guitarist playing in local bands from my hometown. One of which was Rod Tenney. Rod really pushed hard to get the band ready for gigs and his work paid off with me as I never had practiced so hard to learn songs in such a short amount of time. Before I knew it I was constantly gigging. That was cool until there were problems with the bassist. Enter Greg Deener. That encounter with Greg made the band a lot stronger, which inevitably led to Greg’s wife being involved as lead singer replacing Rod. The band Mischief lasted almost 4 years, not bad for a local band. During that time I had continued performing my solo thing and also put a kind of throw together group known as the Glicksters Blues Plate Special Band it featured the areas favored blues players. Such as Harp player Lil Higgy of Lil Higgy and the House Rockers, the famous blues guitarist Springfield Shaky and renown stand up bassist John Sauter, and drummer Reggie Britton who now fronts his own band Black Magic Johnson. This line up did revolve a bit and included other favorites from the Decatur scene as well, like harmonica player Dave Sheets and bassist Charley Barding both former members of the Pure Gravey Blues Band. Around 1992 Greg and Patti moved to Seattle WA and I remained with Reggie Britton, the last drummer that Mischief had hired. After a few failed attempts at putting a stable blues band together Reg and I parted ways.

My first real promo shot

It was then I embarked on putting my own thing together. This wasn’t going to be anything like the Blues Plate Special Band. This was going to be my version of Thorogood meets Stevie Ray Vaughan. I wanted to showcase as much of my influences as I could with this band and I think I was able to do it. But there’s no way it would have happened without the help and dedication of players that were willing to do the same thing.

Enter bassist Mike White and drummer Brett Darrough. These Fellas were the1st line up of the GGB. I don’t remember how I met Bret, but I know I sought Mike out at a gig in Peoria. I forget the details but somehow everything fell into place and we started off booking as soon as possible.

Our first press re-less

This line up lasted for a few months then Mike left due to job reasons and Brett brought in guitarist/bassist Dave Trueblood. This 2nd line up of the GGB lasted for the rest of 94 and part of 95. 95 didn’t offer much in the way of gigs there were a few. Bret parted ways and headed back to college and I rounded up a drummer from Champaign Chris Sullivan who helped Dave T and I Finnish the dates we had on the calendar and the demo cd for the band. I suppose that you could call this the 3rd line up of the GGB

As fate would have it Dave T job hours changed and I had no choice but to stop playing for a while. So the rest of 1995 and early 1996 I stayed focused on trying to prefect the demo cd that Dave T and Chris Sullivan had recorded with me. That demo eventually got a lot of work for me the following year. In sometime 96 I got the itch to look for a bassist and drummer again. Enter bassist Chris Breese and drummer Steve Knopp. Thus the 4th line up of the GGB was born.

As I met bassist Chris Breese he introduced me to his friends, a family of musicians who were hard working and dedicated to playing music. I was never happier when Chris B decided to join forces with me. Not long after we sought out and hired Drummer Steve Knopp who had an authentic laid back approach to his style. Unfortunately due to some musical conflicts we had replaced Steve K with Chris’s friend and drummer Jason King. Jason K is a lot of fun to work with and has his chops down well. Unfortunately Jason King’s stay with us was short lived as he had to part ways as well due to his job. Enter drummer Chris Smith, who proved to be quite skilled with helping us on original song arrangements especially as we entered the studio for yet another attempt at a demo cd.

It was with this line up, the 5th line up of the GGB that ran from 1996, 1997 through 1998 that really launched the GGB into the spotlight of the live band arena. We were eventually able to make our mark on the local scene with the help of booking agent Mindy Broulliette and band Manager / agent Frank Powell. During this time we also had help from family friend Meredith Parish as he offered his services as roadie. Later Tim Mulligan aka Hopsing also offered his services as both roadie and web site designer for the band. Sometime in 1998 however both Chris Breese and Chris Smith decided to leave for personal and family reasons. Drummer Chris Smith was kind enough to help me audition a few bassist though, one of them being a well known bassist/guitarist from Streator IL.  You know him as the renowned Jerry Lee Gingery.

Jerry G stepped up to the plate and took the wheel to help me drive the GGB. His stage presents was strongly felt by many. Jason King also came back on board to help us out for a short while, but before long his work schedule took him from the stage again. After holding auditions for drummers the outlook seemed bleak until I remembered a musician acquaintance from my early days. Enter Judd Short. Fresh from his last project he had found himself looking for something new and different. The feeling Jerry had was more than enthusiastic as he had found a strong foundation for his style and I had found someone who would stay committed and also shard a passion for the blues. Enter the the 6th line up of the GGB

This line lasted from late 1998 to 2003 and could be considered the hey day of the GGB. Accomplishing many efforts including the development of the Ju Ju Kings a spin off of the GGB that produced a full length all original cd entitled Mojo Place. None of this would have come to pass without the help of one of Jerry’s life long friend Kevin Chalfant of Clique Records who summoned the skills of famed Nashville studio drummer Shawn Fichter and world renowned Audio Engineer extraordinar George Tutko and many others. This version of the GGB didn’t come without its problems though; eventually friction and musical direction forced me to re-think where I wanted to go with the GGB. In early 2003 Judd and I parted ways with Jerry and called ole friend Greg Deener to step in as bassist. With this change a 7 th line up of the GGB was developed. This lineup lasted the entire year of 2003; until 2004 when Greg D stepped down to pursue a musical collaboration with his wife Patti and dedicate himself as musical director of his church.

Throughout 04 and 05 Judd and I auditioned many bassists and there were short lived stints with a few of them throughout that time. Tyler Bundy stayed on for a few months as did Alex Montaronow and Troy Vanover. During which time we had contracted the help of our friend Joe Grimes to do some live recording which featured some of these bassists. We also worked with quite a few fill in bassist such as Dave Plunk, Bill Marrow, and Tim Brickner to name a few. We also had seen Chris Breese filling as well. Finally in 2006 Greg Deener came back on board to re-gain his spot as bassist for the GGB, which brings us to the present.
